Facebook Pages and Branding Strategy
A good branding strategy takes advantage of social media sites. Using Facebook in your Internet branding plan is just smart business.
As of March, 2011, there were over 500 million registered users on Facebook. That’s a lot of people. People that you should be reaching with your business marketing to increase brand awareness.
Now don’t let the size of this monster site intimidate you. Facebook is a lot like New York – there are lots of little neighborhoods and a person can go their whole life never leaving their own little 10-square-block comfort zone. You’re going to learn how to become the emperor of that little 10-square-block area.
In order to reach some of those Facebookers, you’ll need to have a Facebook account. If you already have one, don’t create another. That’s a violation of Facebook policy. Simply create a new “page” from your personal account. Put some thought into the page name, because once created, it can’t be changed. You might want to do a little market research to see which names fit best with your Internet-branding policies.
Your new page is going to increase brand awareness by representing your business or a service you provide. Don’t give the page a generic title like “boat” because Facebook might give you the old heave ho. Be as specific with the name as possible, like Jessica’s Custom Boat Building.
In this way you can create and market all of your businesses and services separately through one account. Business and personal accounts are separate yet neatly housed under one umbrella. There is no limit to the number of pages you can create. You can and should have one page for each service your business provides.
Through the marketing tab on the page, you’ll be able to send individualized updates to ALL the folks who “Like” your page or you can target just a FEW of them.
According to Facebook rules, “you may only create a page to represent real organizations of which you are an authorized representative.” Be careful here…you don’t want to do something against the rules and get booted off the site. That would be a disaster for your branding strategy.
After you create the page and give it a great name, you can publicize it on other social media sites. Be sure to include video clips as part of your marketing campaign as video scores well with the big search engines, especially Google. If you have a blog, set up a blog feed on your new page. Upload some audio files and photographs. All of these count more in rankings than text alone.
The success of your new page and the scope of your brand awareness are only limited by your own imagination and creativity, so let your freak flag fly!
